Commission rate is not the whole story

A 50% commission looks better than 20%, but if the first product converts four times less, it pays you less for the same traffic. EPC (earnings per click) puts both programs on the same scale: money earned divided by clicks sent.

How to use your EPC

Once you know the EPC of each program, you can decide where to send your best traffic, how much a sponsored placement is worth, and whether paid ads can be profitable: if a click costs less than your EPC, the ad makes money.

Get reliable numbers

Use at least a few hundred clicks before comparing, and the same audience for both programs. Recurring commissions also keep paying after the first month, so their real EPC grows over time.

FAQ

What is EPC in affiliate marketing?

EPC means earnings per click: your total affiliate earnings divided by the number of clicks on your links. It tells you what one click is worth.

How do I calculate EPC?

EPC = total commissions earned ÷ number of clicks. For example, $180 earned from 1,000 clicks is an EPC of $0.18.

What is a good EPC?

It depends on the niche and the price of the product. Compare programs you promote to the same audience: the one with the higher EPC pays you more for the same traffic.

Why compare EPC instead of commission rate?

A high commission on a product nobody buys earns less than a lower commission that converts. EPC combines both into one number.
